Practice Effective Communication: Mining

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge they need to communicate effectively.

Topics include:

  • consulting with support groups/resources
  • demonstrating knowledge of organizational communication systems
  • demonstrating effective communication skills
  • conducting crew/safety meetings

This course meets the knowledge requirements for the module Practice Effective Communications of the Common Core for First Line Supervisors (including Program #770121, #770131 and #770141).

To become fully accredited under the supervisory common core programs, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate to a qualified trainer their skills and their understanding of the company's specific requirements according to government legislation, company standards and manufacturer specifications for practicing effective communications.

Prerequisites:

To ensure success in this module, all participants should have taken WSN's Act & Mining Regulations and Introduction to Mining Safety Programs courses.

Pre-Course Requirement:

An important part of supervisory communication is the ability to speak in public and make presentations. As part of the course, each participant will be asked to present a brief, three¬ minute presentation on a topic of your choice. The topic can be work-related, safety-related, or pertain to a hobby or other interest.

You are welcome to prepare audio visual aids in advance, or bring props to help with your presentation. If you would like to use PowerPoint slides, please save your slides to a USB device and bring it with you to the session. Give your USB to the instructor at the beginning of the session to ensure the file works properly. Audio visual aids are not mandatory – the point of the exercise is to help you learn to prepare and deliver a verbal presentation or safety talk. You’ll receive feedback from the instructor and the other participants.
