Introduction to Safety Programs

This course will introduce participants to:

  • safety concepts
  • safety policy and programs
  • safe work performance
  • hazard identification and analysis
  • loss control concepts
  • the Five Point Safety System
  • legislated requirements for safety programs.

It meets the knowledge requirements for a portion of the module Follow Safety Program of the Common Core for First Line Supervisors (including Program #770121, #770131 and #770141).

To become fully accredited under the supervisory common core programs, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate to a qualified trainer their skills and their understanding of the company's specific requirements according to government legislation, company standards and manufacturer specifications for safety programs.

Prerequisites:

To ensure success in this module, all participants should have taken WSN's Act & Mining Regulations course.

Intended Audience:

This course is intended for supervisors/lead hands from all mining sectors, JHSC members, and health & safety personnel.

Equipment needed

Participants are to bring:

  • A copy of the Table of Contents from their company safety program manual or a list of the components that they have in their Health & Safety program
  • their company's procedure for using the Five-Point Safety System For all Supervisory Common Core sessions, please bring your copy of the OHSA Reg 854 for Mines and Mining Plants – reference copies will be available at the session.
