Mine Ventilation

This course is designed to familiarize participants with the principles, functions and applications of mine ventilation systems, as well as the applicable sections of the Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants. This will enable them to contribute to the maintenance of safer and healthier working environments. The basic criteria for mine ventilation systems with an emphasis on recognizing, assessing and controlling health hazards associated with mine atmospheres will also be examined.

Topics include:

  • the sources and health effects of airborne contaminants
  • ventilation and air quality controls; airflow requirements for diesel equipment
  • and the function and maintenance of main and auxiliary ventilation systems

This course meets the knowledge requirements for the module Assess, Control and Apply Ventilation Systems in the Workplace of the Common Core for First Line Supervisors (including Program #770121 and #770131). To become fully accredited under the supervisory common core programs, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate to a qualified trainer their skills and their understanding of the company's specific requirements according to government legislation, company standards and manufacturer specifications for ventilation systems in the workplace.

Prerequisites:

To ensure success in this module, all participants should have taken WSN's Act & Mining Regulations and Introduction to Mining Safety Programs courses.

This course is intended for underground supervisors, JHSC members, health & safety personnel, and u/g ventilation engineers/ technicians.
