The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry consulted with industry partners in 2016. This resulted in an Industrial Operations section of Ontario Regulation 207/96 “Outdoor Fires.” The regulation identifies the responsibilities of industrial operators for preventing fires. Both the Ministry and industry share the same goal to prevent fires and reduce their effects.
The Industrial Operations Protocol was prepared to provided information and direction about the regulation. It explains how to prevent and quickly suppress any fires happening on or near industrial worksites in forested areas. This is a guideline, so in all matters requiring interpretation, consult the regulation. There is also a modified protocol specific to the forestry industry.
