Workplace Safety North (WSN) is seeking candidates to represent Ontario’s forestry and mining sector. Both workers and managers are encouraged to apply.

Serving on the WSN Board of Directors is a meaningful volunteer opportunity to help guide workplace health and safety across Ontario’s mining, forestry, pulp and paper, and printing and converting industries.

WSN is governed by a competency‑based, volunteer Board that provides strategic oversight and supports collaboration across Ontario’s prevention system.

The Opportunity

  • Three Board Director positions
  • Three‑year term
  • Candidates should represent the forestry sector in either worker or management roles
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is an asset: 
    • Finance / Accounting
    • Legal
    • Human Resources
    • Information Technology
    • Not‑for‑Profit Board Governance
    • Government Relations
    • Risk Management & Strategy
    • Public Relations
    • Occupational Health and Safety
    • Worker experience

Qualifications

Applicants must be a Member of the Corporation, 18 years of age or older, not an undischarged bankrupt, and able to comply with WSN’s Code of Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer role.

Directors are expected to:

  • Attend four Board meetings annually (typically 4 hours-virtual, 6 hours- in-person each)
  • Participate in approximately three virtual committee meetings per year (about 1.5 hours each)
  • Prepare in advance using materials provided at least five days before meetings
  • Attend Board orientation sessions as required

Travel and approved business expenses are reimbursed in accordance with WSN guidelines
