Changes take effect on July 1, 2026

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) has announced changes to Ontario’s Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification Training Program that will take effect July 1, 2026.

Current certification training programs will remain valid until June 30, 2026, and existing JHSC certifications will not be affected.

Key updates include:

  • Expanded access to training through the introduction of hybrid learning delivery
  • A simplified recertification process, allowing Refresher training instead of retaking Parts One and Two after certification expiry
  • Removal of the one-time exemption process
  • Enhanced learning outcomes and training requirements related to workplace violence and harassment, occupational illness and classroom conduct

The changes will be reflected in both the Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training Program Standard and the Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training Provider Standard.

As an approved provider of JHSC certification training in Ontario, Workplace Safety North will continue to support workplaces with compliant, high-quality health and safety training.
