New training responds to industry need for practical fit for duty guidance
Workplace Safety North (WSN) is pleased to offer a new Fit for Duty e-learning series designed to help workplaces better understand fitness for duty and the factors that can affect a worker’s ability to perform their job safely.
The series – free to take until December 31, 2026 – includes five self-paced e-learning courses:
- Fatigue and its Effects
- Tools for Supervisors
- Legislative Requirements
- Management and Testing Protocols
- Substances and their Effects
Each self-paced module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, making the training easier to access and allowing participants to select the topics most relevant to their role or workplace.
“This five-part series responds directly to industry needs and feedback for clarity around fitness for duty," says Tiana Larocque, Manager of Integrated Solutions, Health and Safety Services at WSN. "Breaking the training into shorter modules makes the information easier for workplaces to access, while also expanding on our traditional half-day course with new content focused on fatigue and its effects in the workplace."
Fatigue and its Effects
Fit for Duty: Fatigue and its Effects explores the signs, causes and consequences of fatigue, how fatigue can affect work, and approaches for managing fatigue in the workplace.
Tools for Supervisors
Fit for Duty: Tools for Supervisors provides practical information for supervisors, including policy, safety and accommodation considerations, having difficult conversations, and the importance of documentation.
Legislative Requirements
Fit for Duty: Legislative Requirements explores fitness for duty and impairment at work, safety-sensitive roles, impairment testing, bona fide occupational requirements, and the duties of workplace parties.
Management and Testing Protocols
Fit for Duty: Management and Testing Protocols focuses on managing fitness for duty through workplace policies, employee education, reasonable grounds and impairment testing.
Substances and their Effects
Fit for Duty: Substances and their Effects explores causes of impairment, signs of potential impairment, stigma and addiction, and common substances and their potential effects on workers.
Participants can register for individual modules based on their learning needs or complete all five courses in the Fit for Duty e-learning series.
