The instructor-led course, in a classroom setting, provides workers who operate a variety of different types of log- and lumber-moving mobile machines, commonly referred to as yard loaders, with the knowledge and information necessary to operate these machines in a safe manner.
The primary focus is on safe operating procedures relating to:
- Personal protective equipment
- Danger zones
- Circle check
- Loading/unloading
- Traveling
As well as hazards related to:
- Retained energy
- Overhead power lines
- Terrain and roadways
- Traffic
The course includes three to four hours of classroom presentation and discussion and may include an outside machine demonstration of circle check and routine maintenance.
Intended Audience:
This course is intended for supervisors, JHSC members, health and safety representatives, and operators of yard loaders in sawmill, veneer and other board industries.
