JHSC Certification Refresher

Certified members of a joint health and safety committee (JHSC) are required to take Refresher Training within three years of becoming certified, and every three years thereafter to maintain their certification. Failure to meet this requirement may result in revocation of a member’s certification status by Ontario’s Chief Prevention Officer.

This CPO-approved course reviews core elements of the Part 1 and Part 2 Certification program, covering the following topics:

  • The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • The rights, duties and responsibilities of a certified member
  • Recognizing, assessing, and controlling health and safety hazards, and evaluating hazard controls
  • How to prepare and conduct workplace inspections, and how to report findings to the committee
  • Health and safety policies and programs: legal requirements and how to implement them
  • Recent updates to health and safety legislation
  • Best practices for effective JHSCs

The final evaluation is a 20-question test. To successfully complete the evaluation, participants must score 75 percent or higher.

Prerequisites:

Certification courses: JHSC Part 1 & Part 2, within three years of certified status expiration

Intended Audience:

The course is designed for JHSC management and worker representatives who require Refresher training to maintain their certified status.
