New infographics highlight 2024 statistics from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
New data from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Enterprise Information Warehouse provides an updated look at work-related injuries and illnesses in Ontario’s mining and forest products industries. This information includes claims allowed within the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) groups that Workplace Safety North supports.
For the first time since 2021, subsector information is now available for the forest products industry, reflecting injuries across areas such as logging, milled wood products, sawmills, paper products, and more.
Despite differences in operations, both sectors share common causes of lost-time injuries, including:
- Bodily reaction and exertion: injuries caused by repetitive motions, overexertion, and static postures while applying force to an object.
- Contact with objects and equipment: incidents involving being caught in or compressed by objects, struck by or against objects, and abrasions by friction or pressure.
- Falls: including falls on the same level, to a lower level, or jumps to a lower level.
- Other: includes exposure to traumatic or stressful events, violence and harassment, or exposure to caustic, noxious, or allergenic substances.
