This training course reviews the knowledge and skills required by managers, supervisors and ergonomic committees to effectively recognize, assess and control common workplace musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
On February 27, 2007, the Occupational Health and Safety Council of Ontario along with WSIB and the MLITSD released a Musculoskeletal Disorder Guideline. The guideline is intended to help workplaces reduce cost, boost productivity, improve product and service quality, and stimulate innovation, as it recognized that MSDs threaten both the workers' health and safety. MSD prevention efforts should be integrated into existing health and safety approaches and practices.
The course is instructor-led and supported by a Participant Manual that includes a sample Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and a Self-Guided Working Package for setting up an ergonomic assessment team in the workplace. Classroom content is supported by PowerPoint slides. Completion of the REBA can be done on-site or through group discussion or video. Please contact the instructor for further information.
After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to recognize, assess and start to implement controls for workplace MSDs associated with common job functions and work activities. Participants will receive information and be provided guidance in using the REBA, an ergonomic assessment tool for MSDs.
