Dumas Contracting Wins $25K for CNIB in Canada Sings contest

Thursday, June 07, 2012

Congratulations to Dumas Contracting who won $25,000 for the Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB) in Global TV’s Canada Sings contest on June 5th.

The episode is available to watch on Global TV. The show contains a winning song and dance routine from Dumas’ employees, some excellent interviews with the miners, great video footage of the underground, and a nice tie in to health and safety.

The team chose the CNIB’s Lake Joseph as their charity for fellow miner Terry Rickard. When Rickard was 23 years old he had a slip and fall incident that triggered a dormant eye disease, resulting in Rickard losing his entire vision over six months. Rickard was blind for 18 years, and then his vision suddenly returned.

This isn’t Dumas’ first award in 2011. In April at the WSN Mining Conference, Dumas picked up the Ontario Mine Contractors Safety Association (OMCSA) Innovation award for the development of a Rerailer Bar.
